Riley’s Cause
In the midst of the unexpected challenges that a cancer diagnosis brings, what seems to be a small thing can often make a huge amount of difference. While Riley’s Cause is not involved in cancer research or finding cures, we are on a mission to bring a smile to the faces of children who are battling cancer and bring joy and comfort to both them and their family!
I am Joe Landy, the founder of Riley’s Cause and my wife, Eda, was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer at the age of 35. Our wonderful close-knit family provided us with lots of love and support. But I quickly noticed that the one thing that always put a smile on Eda’s face, even while she was undergoing difficult chemotherapy treatments, was our beloved Maltese poodle, Riley!
No matter how hard the day seemed to be, Riley could turn a bad day into a good day by running into the room, jumping on her lap or laying at her feet. For Eda, Riley made all the difference and he helped to change her quality of life during her struggle with cancer! Eda was such a loving wife and wonderful mother to our two children, Ashley and Connor; she always enjoyed volunteering and helping others, especially children. During her illness, she told me how concerned she was for the children who were undergoing chemo treatment as it broke her heart seeing them go through that kind of hardship at such a young age. She felt she had lived a good life and yet theirs was just beginning.
